Background

Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction

1.1 Who we are

Goreg.co.uk is operated by GoReg Ltd. We’re registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 20 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7GU. Company number: 14689030.

You can contact us via our contact form or by phone on 07713592737.

1.2 What these Terms cover

These Terms set out the legal relationship between you and us. By using our website or any of our services (online or offline), you agree to these Terms.

If you don’t agree, you must not use our website or services. You may print or save a copy for your records.

1.3 Updates to these Terms

This version is dated 28 February 2026.

We may update these Terms from time to time by publishing a revised version on our website. The version in force at the time you use our services will apply.

1.4 What we do

We facilitate the transfer of rights to display vehicle registration marks (“Registrations”).

When we refer to “ownership” of a Registration, we mean the individual who holds the primary right to display that Registration, subject to government approval.

For clarity: you are not buying intellectual property rights in the alpha-numeric sequence itself.

1.5 Governing law

These Terms, and any dispute arising from them or our services, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England have exclusive jurisdiction.

2. Buying a Registration

2.1 Where Registrations come from

When you purchase a Registration, it may be:

  • Owned by us
  • Owned by a third party (where we act as broker)
  • Owned by the Government (via transfer)

All purchases are subject to availability and these Terms, including Sections 2.6 and 2.7.

2.2 When a contract is formed

A contract is formed (“Formation”) when we confirm, by email or verbally, that we accept your offer to purchase a Registration.

The contract is fully completed (“Completion”) only once the Registration has been validly transferred or assigned in accordance with these Terms.

If you purchase by phone, we will confirm when Formation occurs. Completion may be confirmed during the call or in writing afterwards.

2.3 How Registrations are supplied

Registrations may be supplied in one of two ways:

(a) Direct transfer to a vehicle

You must provide accurate and complete documentation within four weeks of purchase.

If you fail to do so, the Registration may instead be supplied on a retention document or certificate of entitlement (“Certificate”). Any additional costs incurred will be recovered from you.

(b) Supplied on a Certificate

You are responsible for assigning the Registration to a vehicle before the Certificate expires.

Some Registrations cannot be supplied on a Certificate. In those cases, the correct documentation must be provided for direct transfer.

2.4 Transfer timelines

Transfers can take up to 12 weeks, although they may complete sooner.

Delays may occur due to unforeseen circumstances or delays by third-party sellers.

If the transfer has not completed within 12 weeks after we receive cleared funds and correct documentation, you may request a full refund in writing.

2.5 Ownership

Ownership remains with the seller (or us, where applicable) until full payment has been received.

If finance is used, ownership is subject to the terms of that finance agreement.

(See also Section 2.2.)

2.6 Availability

All Registrations are subject to availability.

While we take care to ensure listings are accurate, a Registration may become unavailable due to:

  • Seller withdrawal
  • Human error
  • DVLA listing discrepancies

If this occurs for reasons outside your control, we will offer either:

  • A suitable alternative, or
  • A full refund

If unavailability results from your actions or errors, no refund will be given.

2.7 DVLA approval

All Registrations and transfers are subject to DVLA and government approval.

The DVLA or Secretary of State may cancel a Registration without compensation.

If cancellation occurs before assignment, we will refund monies paid.

If cancellation occurs after assignment, any claim must be directed to the DVLA or Secretary of State.

Once a transfer is approved by the DVLA, we have no further liability in relation to that Registration.

2.8 General transfer terms

All sales are subject to the General Transfer Terms in Section 6.

2.9 Consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.

However, cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 do not apply to personalised goods or services such as Registrations.

Our services begin immediately upon Formation and cannot be cancelled under those regulations.

2.10 Price changes and errors

Until a binding contract is formed, prices may change without notice.

If a pricing error occurs, our liability is limited to refunding any monies paid.

2.11 Certificate expiry

Certificates display an expiry date set by the DVLA.

You must assign the Registration before expiry.

If the Certificate expires, the Registration becomes void permanently under law.

We accept no liability for loss resulting from failure to assign before expiry.

2.12 Accuracy of details

You are solely responsible for ensuring the Registration details you provide are correct.

When communicating by phone, we recommend using the NATO phonetic alphabet to avoid errors.

2.13 Promotional codes

Where promotional codes apply:

  • They may apply to Registrations owned by us or third parties.
  • They are valid only until the stated expiry date.
  • Only one code may be used per Transaction.
  • Codes must be declared at the start of negotiations.
  • They cannot be applied retroactively.

We reserve the right to withdraw or amend promotions at any time, subject to Section 2.9.

2.14 DVLA withdrawal

In rare cases, the DVLA may withdraw a Registration (for example, due to offensive content).

If withdrawal occurs before assignment, we will refund monies paid.

If it occurs after assignment, we accept no liability. Claims must be directed to the DVLA.

3. Price and Payment (Buying a Registration)

3.1 Price

Once a Transaction is formed (see Section 2.2), you are legally required to pay the agreed price (“Price”).

3.2 Additional costs

Some Registrations are subject to VAT. Where applicable, this will be clearly shown.

All Registrations are sold subject to the Department for Transport fee.

The total Price, including all applicable charges, will always be communicated to you before purchase.

3.3 Payment terms

Deposits and payments

Deposits and full payments are non-refundable unless the transfer cannot proceed for reasons outside your control (see Section 2.6).

Balance payments

If you pay a deposit, the remaining balance must be paid within seven (7) days unless otherwise agreed in writing.

If the balance is not paid within this period:

  • All monies paid are forfeited, and
  • The Registration will be returned to the market.

Card payment limit

The maximum payable by credit card is £5,000. Any amount above this must be paid via an alternative approved method (for example, bank transfer).

3.4 Cancellation and overdue payments

If a scheduled payment becomes overdue, we may cancel the Transaction by written notice.

If you cancel, or we cancel due to non-payment:

  • Any deposit paid is non-refundable.
  • We may charge a cancellation fee of 20% of the total Transaction value.
  • Payments above the deposit and cancellation fee will be retained, unless separate terms apply.
  • The Registration will be returned to the market.

4. Finance (Buying a Registration)

4.1 Liability

Once a Transaction is formed (Section 2.2), you remain liable for the full agreed Price.

4.2 Finance provider

Finance is provided subject to status.

Our retail finance partner is Klarna Bank (a trading name of Klarna Bank AB (publ)).

If approved, your finance agreement is between you and Klarna Bank AB (publ). We act as credit broker, not lender.

GoReg LTD (trading as goreg.co.uk) has applied for authorisation with the Financial Conduct Authority.

Credit is subject to:

  • Affordability
  • Age
  • Status
  • Minimum and maximum spends

If your application is approved, you enter a Credit Agreement directly with Klarna Bank AB (publ).

Eligibility for finance Klarna is available to UK residents aged 18 or over, subject to eligibility.

If you choose Klarna at checkout:

  • Approval is decided by Klarna.
  • Eligibility may depend on your age, address, payment history and affordability.
  • Klarna may carry out credit or identity checks.
  • You must provide accurate personal and payment information.

You must have:

  • A valid UK billing address
  • A debit or credit card in your name
  • A valid email address and mobile number

We may remove Klarna as a payment option at any time, including where it is displayed in error or not available for a particular purchase.

4.3 Finance and discounts

Finance cannot be combined with:

  • Negotiated pricing
  • Discount codes
  • Promotional vouchers
  • Price reductions

Finance applies only to the full advertised price.

4.4 Payment schedule

Payments are made monthly by Direct Debit.

The first payment is usually due one month after the agreement date.

Subsequent payments are due monthly for the agreed term.

4.5 Regulatory information

Klarna Bank AB (publ) regulatory disclosures remain unchanged, retained exactly for compliance purposes.

5. Selling a Registration

5.1 Price structure

If you sell a Registration:

  • You agree to sell at an agreed price (“Actual Selling Price”).
  • If brokered, the buyer pays an “Actual Buying Price.”

Our profit is the difference between those two figures.

5.2 How we act

We may:

  • Buy directly from you: if agreed, a contract is formed for us to purchase at the agreed price.
  • Broker a sale: We advertise at your agreed Selling Price and seek a buyer.

We do not guarantee:

  • Finding a buyer
  • Achieving a particular price

If the sale fails due to reasons outside our control, no payment is made.

5.3 Documentation

Upon confirmation of a sale:

  • If held on Certificate: Send the valid Certificate within 7 days.
  • If assigned to a vehicle: Send the V5C within 7 days and ensure tax and MOT (if required) are valid.

Failure to provide documentation may delay or void the sale.

5.4 Payment to you

We pay you once the DVLA confirms transfer completion.

If the buyer used finance, payment depends on our receiving settlement.

5.5 Payment method

Payments are made by BACS within three working days.

We are not responsible for incorrect bank details you provide.

Payments are made in GBP only.

5.6 General transfer terms

All sales remain subject to Section 6.

6. General Transfer Terms

It is illegal to display a Registration before the transfer is officially completed.

6.2 Age restrictions

A Registration must not make a vehicle appear newer than it is.

6.3 Vehicle requirements

  • MOT’d (or GVT where applicable)

Transfers cannot complete without this.

6.4 Certificates

Certificates:

  • May name us as grantee
  • May name you or your nominee
  • Are valid for up to 10 years

Once assigned, the vehicle keeper controls the Registration.

7. Price Match Policy

When purchasing a Registration, we will use reasonable efforts to match or beat a price quoted by another independent dealer.

This policy:

  • Is subject to any limitations published on our website.
  • Does not apply retrospectively to completed Transactions.
  • Will not apply where matching would result in a financial loss to us.

We reserve discretion in applying this policy.

8. Acrylic Number Plates Service

We supply acrylic number plates (“Plate Service”) that comply with applicable legal standards.

Because plates are personalised:

  • They cannot be cancelled or returned once manufactured, unless faulty.

You warrant that:

  • You will not alter, misrepresent, or manipulate the characters.

Plates are delivered only to the billing address for security and traceability.

9. Competitions and Prize Draws

From time to time we may run competitions or prize draws.

  • Winners are selected independently.
  • No cash alternative is offered for Registration prizes.

By entering, you accept these Terms.

  • Cannot be refunded.
  • Expire on the date stated.
  • Must be presented at point of purchase.
  • Cannot be applied retrospectively.
  • May not be used for certain excluded items or services.
  • Are issued by GoReg Ltd (company number 14689030).

Lost or stolen vouchers cannot be replaced.

11. Privacy and Security

We process personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Details of how we collect, use, store and protect your personal data, including your rights, are set out in our Privacy Policy.

You should read these Terms alongside our Privacy Policy.

We may disclose information where required by law or to facilitate the delivery of our services.
